The setup order, in short
Setting up a room is a short sequence, and the order matters. Each step depends on the one before it, so if you skip ahead and something looks broken, come back here and work down the list.
- Connect your meeting account: create a small developer app in the account that hosts your meetings and paste its two keys into your room settings.
- Switch on the Meeting SDK and activate the app. This is the step most often missed, and the one behind the Signature is invalid message.
- Add your meeting and its passcode. Keep the passcode on, save it in your room settings and turn the platform's own waiting room off.
- Set capacity to your licence's participant limit so the room can warn you before the meeting fills.
- Test on a second device as a guest, start the meeting as host, press Start the room and fire an effect.
- Add your custom domain if you are on a Branded Room, then work through the first event checklist.
Before you begin
BrandedRooms hosts the video meeting you already run, inside a page with your name on it. At launch that means a Zoom account, connected through the Zoom Meeting SDK, which is why these setup pages name it where the steps need it. Zoom is a trademark of Zoom Communications, Inc. BrandedRooms is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zoom.
You will need the login for the account that hosts your meetings, the meeting you plan to use, and its passcode. Keep your room settings open in another tab and allow time for a proper test. Nothing in setup changes how your meeting account works for anything else: your recordings, billing and other meetings stay exactly where they were.
As the host, you will spend most of your time in the host control panel. It is where you open and close the room, press Start the room, fire effects with keys 1–5, see who is in and watch capacity. Guests see none of it. They see your waiting room, then your meeting, inside your page, in the browser, with nothing to download.
When something goes wrong
Almost every setup problem we have seen comes down to one of two messages, and both have plain fixes.
Signature is invalid, error 3712, means the developer app is not ready to sign guests in. Usually the Meeting SDK switch is off, the Local Test step was skipped, or the app was made in a different account from the one that owns the meeting.
Meeting has not started, error 3008, means the meeting itself has not been started in the meeting app by the host. Pressing Start the room opens your page to the live meeting, but it does not start the meeting for you. Start it in the app first, then press the button.
If you see something else, check the join problems list in your host control panel, which records any failed join, and try the test again on a second device.
Settings that shape the day
Three settings decide how your event feels to guests. The passcode should be on and saved in your room, so guests never type it and nobody waits twice. Capacity should match your licence, because everyone inside your room counts toward the meeting's participant limit of 100, 300, 500 or 1,000 depending on the plan you hold. And remember that live effects play on your room page, not inside the meeting platform's recording, so plan a screen recording of the room page if you want them in a replay.
Each of these has its own page with the reasoning and the exact steps.
None of them is complicated, but each one is easy to get wrong in a hurry. Set them calmly the week before your event, write them down for anyone who co-hosts with you, and check them again during your test. A setting you chose on purpose is far easier to defend at the door than one you inherited by accident.
Making it yours
Once the room works, make it unmistakably yours. On a Branded Room you can put the room on your own domain or subdomain, so guests join at an address they recognise. Then walk through the first event checklist: a week out, the day before, the hour before and the moment you go live. It is the same routine we use for our own events.
BrandedRooms started as one room, built for Krystalore Crews' 9-Year Business Birthday. Every fix on these pages comes from setting up that first real room, so you meet each snag with the answer already written.
