Branded room setup help

Connect your meeting account to your room

To connect your meeting account, you create a small developer app inside that same account, switch on its embedding feature, and paste the app's two keys and your meeting details into your room settings. It takes about as long as making a coffee if you follow the steps in order. This page walks through each step and names the settings that most often trip people up.

Before you start

BrandedRooms hosts the video meeting you already run. Today that means a Zoom account: the room uses the Zoom Meeting SDK to run your meeting inside your own page. Zoom is a trademark of Zoom Communications, Inc. BrandedRooms is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Zoom.

Have three things ready: a login for the meeting account that will host your events (the host account, not a guest account), the meeting you plan to use (its link or meeting number), and that meeting's passcode, the short one people type. Keep your BrandedRooms room settings open in another tab.

Step by step

Do these in order. Each step fixes a problem we hit while setting up the first real room.

  • Sign in at marketplace.zoom.us with the same account that hosts your meetings. An app created in a different account will not work, even inside the same company.
  • Choose Develop, then Build App, and create a General App. Give it a name your team will recognise, such as your company name plus Room.
  • Open the app's Features section, choose Embed, and switch Meeting SDK on. The option labelled Use public client OAuth is not this switch; leave it off.
  • Open Local Test and press Add App Now. This activates the app on your account. Skipping it is the most common cause of the Signature is invalid message.
  • Copy the app's Client ID and Client Secret into your room settings. BrandedRooms stores the secret encrypted and only ever shows it masked.
  • Paste your meeting link or meeting number, and type the passcode people type to join. Do not paste the long pwd= code from the end of the meeting link.

The two settings that matter most

Zoom requires every meeting to have a passcode or a waiting room. For a branded room we recommend keeping the passcode on and saving it in your room settings, so guests never type it: the room passes it for them. Then turn Zoom's own waiting room off. Your branded lobby already does the waiting, and with both on, guests would wait twice and you would have to admit each person by hand.

Second, set the room's capacity to your licence's participant limit. Everyone inside your room counts toward that limit, which is 100, 300, 500 or 1,000 participants depending on the plan you hold. The room warns you as you approach it. If you expect more people, add a larger meeting licence or plan an overflow livestream before the day.

Check that it worked

Open your room on a second device, or in a private browser window, and join as a guest with a test name and email. You should see your waiting room with the message that you will be joining shortly. Now start the meeting in the Zoom app as host, then press Start the room in your control panel. The guest's page should switch to the meeting by itself within a few seconds.

If the guest sees Signature is invalid, the Meeting SDK switch or the Local Test step was missed, or the app sits in a different account. If the guest sees Meeting has not started, the meeting itself was not started in the app as host. Both have their own help pages with the fix in order.

What BrandedRooms can and cannot see

Connecting the account lets the room sign guests into the one meeting you configured, as attendees. It cannot start meetings on your behalf, read your other meetings or change your account settings. Your recordings, cloud storage and billing stay with your meeting account exactly as before. You can disconnect at any time by deleting the app or removing the keys from your room settings.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which meeting account should I connect to my room?+

Connect the account that hosts the meeting your guests will join. The developer app must be created inside that same account, because an app in a different account cannot sign guests into the meeting. If several people host from one company account, create the app once in that account and use its keys in each room.

Do my guests ever type the meeting passcode?+

No. You save the passcode once in your room settings and the room passes it for guests when the meeting starts. Use the short passcode people type, not the long code at the end of the meeting link. Keeping the passcode on and the platform's own waiting room off means nobody waits twice.

Is my client secret safe in my room settings?+

The client secret is stored encrypted and only ever shown masked after you save it. It is used only to sign guests into the meeting you configured, as attendees. If you ever think the secret has been exposed, generate a new one in the developer app and paste it into your room settings.

How long does it take to connect a meeting account?+

Most hosts finish in a few minutes when they follow the steps in order: create the app, switch on embedding, run the local test step, copy the two keys, then add the meeting and passcode. Allow extra time for the test on a second device, which is the step that catches problems before guests arrive.
