What a custom domain gives you
A custom domain puts your room at an address your guests already trust. Instead of a brandedrooms.com link, your invitations say your own name, and the address bar shows it while guests wait in your lobby and join the meeting. It is a small detail that makes the whole event feel like yours, from the first email to the last thank you.
Custom domains are part of a Branded Room and Custom Deluxe, along with your logo, colours and fonts. If you run several rooms, each one can have its own address; managing many rooms together is available on request, so talk to sales.
Choose your address
Most hosts use a subdomain, a short word in front of the domain they already own. It leaves your main website untouched and is easy for guests to remember.
- Pick something short and plain, such as live, room, events or meet, in front of your domain.
- Avoid a subdomain your website or email already uses.
- If you run more than one room, give each a name that says what it is for.
- Check you can sign in to wherever your domain's DNS is managed, usually your domain registrar or hosting provider.
Add the DNS record
Your room settings show you exactly which record to add and the value to give it, and those details are the ones to use. The usual shape is a CNAME record, or occasionally an A record, but always copy what your settings show rather than a value from anywhere else.
- In your room settings, open the custom domain section and enter the subdomain you chose.
- Copy the record type, name and value shown there.
- In your DNS provider, add a new record with that type, name and value, and save it.
- Back in your room settings, start the check so the room can look for your record.
Wait for it to verify
DNS changes take time to travel. Your room settings show the status while the record is checked and the security certificate is issued for your address. Often that is quick, but it can take longer depending on your DNS provider, so set your domain up well before your invitations go out.
Until the domain verifies, keep using your brandedrooms.com address. Nothing about your room, your meeting or your guests changes while you wait.
If it does not verify
Most domains verify without any trouble. When one does not, the cause is nearly always a small typing difference in the record, and these checks find it.
- Check the name field. Some DNS providers add your domain automatically, so typing the full address can create a doubled name. Enter only the subdomain part if that is the case.
- Look for an older record with the same name and remove it if it conflicts.
- Make sure the value was pasted exactly, with no extra spaces.
- Give it a little longer, then run the check again from your room settings.
- If it still will not verify, contact support with your subdomain and a screenshot of the record.
Share and test your new address
Once your address shows as verified, open it on a second device and run your usual guest test: lobby, start the meeting as host, Start the room, an effect, the guest in your list. Then update your invitations, reminders and calendar entries to the new address, so every guest arrives at your door rather than ours.
