Two ways to record, two different results
A branded meeting room is a web page with your meeting inside it. That gives you two things you could record, and they look different.
- The meeting recording, made by your meeting platform. It captures the speakers, audio and shared screens. It does not include the room page around the meeting or the live effects.
- A screen recording of the room page, made on a computer during the event. It captures what guests saw: your branding, the meeting and the effects as they played.
Recording the meeting
Use the recording built into your meeting account. Start the meeting as host, start the recording, and check that it is running before you press Start the room. Choose whether to record to your computer or your account's cloud storage, based on your plan and how much storage you have.
Your recordings stay with your meeting account, exactly as they did before you used a branded room. BrandedRooms does not hold or process them.
Recording with effects
If the celebration moments matter, such as the confetti at a launch or the applause at an awards night, screen-record the room page. Use a computer with a reliable connection and plenty of free storage, open the room as a guest in a separate browser window, and record that window with your computer's screen recorder. Capture system audio too, so the effect sounds are included.
A producer or helper is the best person to do this, since the host is busy running the event. Start recording before the doors open so you capture the lobby and the moment the room starts.
Before you hit record
Recording well is mostly preparation.
- Tell guests the session is being recorded, at the start and in the invitation.
- Check the consent rules for your audience and region before recording people who speak.
- Make sure the recording device has enough free storage for the full event and some extra.
- Close notifications and private windows on any screen that will be recorded.
- Test a short recording the day before and play it back with sound.
A recording plan for the day
Write down who records what before the event. The host starts the meeting recording in the meeting app and confirms it is running. A producer on a second computer opens the room page as a guest and starts the screen recording, with system audio on, before the doors open. Both stop only after the final goodbye. Then save the files somewhere safe straight away, and name them with the event and date so nobody has to guess which is which.
Editing and sharing the replay
Trim the waiting minutes at the start and any dead air at the end. Add a title card if you like, and timestamps for the main sections in the email that shares it. Decide how long the replay will stay available and say so. If you have both recordings, you can use the meeting recording for clean audio and drop in short clips of the effects moments from the screen recording.
When not to record
Some sessions are better unrecorded: private community calls, sensitive internal updates, or celebrations where people want to speak freely. Say so in the invitation. If people know a session is live only, they are more likely to come live.
